A gay man in Portland, Oregon claims that an Apple Store employee included a homophobic slur on a receipt when he recently purchased a pair of earbuds.

While it is required to include the email address of each customer on any Apple receipts, Adam Catanzarite says that he was printed a receipt after his purchase with an email of “[email protected]” instead of his actual address.

Catanzarite complained to the store manager, but took his story to social media after he was unsatisfied with how the situation was dealt with.

The man wrote on his Facebook account:

So here’s a thing. I got called a f@g by an ‪#‎Apple‬ employee here in ‪#‎Portland‬. The store manager did not do what he said he would to rectify the situation, so now I feel it is important to share the story.

Being queer and having worked with queer youth, I know first-hand that this is an example of the type of ‪#‎homophobic‬ beliefs and actions that lead young people to harm themselves. This type of action is NOT OKAY, especially from a company that prides itself on being LGBTQ inclusive and welcoming.

My friends, I please ask that you like this status or share it with your networks to let them know that ‪#‎homophobia‬ does not have a place in PDX (or anywhere) and that you reconsider where you spend your money. Perhaps the ‪#‎Applestore‬ is not so deserving.

A spokesperson from Apple has said that the company is aware of the situation, but refused to comment.

CEO of Apple, Tim Cook is openly gay and has previously said that the company has an “unwavering commitment to equality and diversity”. This year, thousands of Apple’s LGBT employees marched in San Francisco Pride Parade, which was filmed for a YouTube clip that has almost 1 million hits to date.
