Less than three weeks after being announced as a “major” Doctor Who cast member for season 15, first-look images of Jinkx Monsoon in character have been revealed. Posting the photos on Wednesday, April 19, the drag performer wrote: “When The Doctor summons me, I am compelled to answer,” followed by storm cloud and piano emojis.
While this is only an initial teaser for fans, the BBC confirmed that the actor has commenced filming and will play the iconic protagonist’s “most powerful enemy yet!”
Monsoon will star alongside Ncuti Gatwa in the upcoming season, with the latter set to make history both as the first openly gay and Black Doctor. Russell T Davies is also returning to the production, having previously worked as a showrunner on the series from 2005 to 2010.

Speaking earlier this month about joining the cast, Monsoon stated: “I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russel T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer – I can’t wait to get into the weed with him and the crew!
“I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage,” she jokingly added.
The beloved performer joins the show after winning two seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race, including securing the ‘Queen of Queens’ All Stars crown in 2022. This latest acting venture also follows their Broadway debut earlier this year, playing Matron ‘Mama’ Morton in Chicago. Monsoon made history as the first drag performer to hold this role, and her contribution helped to break box office records during her extended 8-week run.
Doctor Who will return in November 2023 for three special episodes marking the show’s 60th anniversary, with David Tennant starring as the 14th Doctor. Following this, the show’s 15th season will air during the festive period, premiering in Ireland and the UK exclusively on the BBC and further afield on Disney+.
