On May 10, the AIB Community €1 Million Fund opened for 2023, giving anyone in Ireland a chance to nominate their local charities to receive some financial support.
First launched last year, the fund strives to support the different communities that are part of our society and help charity organisations keep up their good and much-needed work. The fund is currently supporting “72 charities across six regions in Ireland, NI and the UK” and is looking to support a further 72 organisations this year.
The total €1 million is split into two categories. €700,000 will be granted to charities chosen by customers, and €300,000 will go to charities chosen by AIB employees.
The charities that receive the highest number of nominations will be shortlisted and invited to present to a judging panel that will consist of several AIB representatives and independent adjudicators. The panel will then decide on the top six charity organisations for different regions in Ireland (Greater Dublin; Rest of Leinster; Munster; Connaught and Ulster (ROI)) that will be selected to receive funding.
The fund opens every year during the summer, and starting from May 10, nominations will remain open for five weeks. To add to the good news, anyone can nominate a charity that means the most to them!
If you like the work that we do here at GCN and you’d like to support us, know that GCN is also eligible for the fund. GCN is a charity organisation and has been Ireland’s free national LGBTQ+ press since 1988. For over three decades, GCN has been a key resource for our community, acting as a hub and striving to inform, educate, connect, platform, entertain and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.
If you intend to nominate GCN for consideration, you can simply submit your nomination on the AIB Community €1 Million Fund website. All you have to do is click on ‘nominate here’, enter National LGBT Federation and our charity registration number (20034580) and give a short description of why you think we deserve support.
We at GCN greatly appreciate any and all nominations because, as a charity, every little bit of funding we receive makes it possible for us to produce new content for you every day. By doing so, you’ll also be helping us keep Ireland’s national LGBTQ+ press free for the community.
A big thank you to everyone who chooses to take the time to express their support for us, and best of luck to all the nominees!

Support GCN
GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.
During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.
GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
