An unnamed company’s Christmas party was cancelled after enquiring about a bar’s gay clientele – as it was against some of their employees’ religion.

Alex Proud – the owner of Proud  in Camden – responded to the international car company, suggesting that they should take their business elsewhere after enquiring whether or not it was a gay bar. The company’s worry came from some of their employees whose religion does not agree with homosexuality. While Proud is not specifically a gay bar, the owner still had a thing or two to say to the sender.

Proud tweeted the encounter to his followers and it has since gone viral.

As you can imagine, Proud wasn’t well-pleased with the company’s homophobic leanings and informed the company that their booking had been cancelled.

Proud made a statement to Buzzfeed about the incident:

I was shocked that a lot of people said they didn’t see what was wrong with their question.

I think some people think homophobia is a thing of the past, there were a lot of people out there who think it’s a fair question. A lot of people think you can justify homophobia using religion.

I was relieved to get that email because I wouldn’t have wanted those people in my venue anyway.

They are a dealership for an international car brand. They would undoubtedly be in very serious trouble if I’d been minded to name them. They wouldn’t have been an official dealership for long.

One thing I despise on the internet is that thing where people hound people to death. I am a believer in redemption. Hopefully this teaches them a lesson and makes them think about their attitudes.
