On May 22, 2015, Ireland made history as the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage by popular vote. To mark this powerful milestone, Outhouse and GCN are curating a community exhibition launching May 22, 2025 — exactly ten years on from the historic Marriage Equality Referendum.

The two organisations are calling on the public to share their stories and memorabilia in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Marriage Equality in Ireland. These shared photos, letters, videos, audio clips, and memorabilia will tell the story of this victory, its lasting impact, and what it truly meant.

These submissions will help form the foundation of the exhibition, honouring the resilience, joy, and love that defined the Marriage Equality movement. Whether you were canvassing on doorsteps, walking down the aisle (before or after), or watching history unfold, we want to hear your story.

Commenting on the upcoming exhibition, Outhouse CEO Oisín O’Reilly said: “We want to celebrate not just the result, but the journey – the passion, activism, and deeply personal experiences that made Marriage Equality a reality in Ireland. This is an opportunity for the community to reflect, remember, and celebrate how far we’ve come.”

GCN Manager, Stefano Pappalardo, shared: “We’re thrilled to partner with Outhouse on this initiative marking the 10th anniversary of Marriage Equality. This is a chance for us to look back and celebrate not only a huge milestone for LGBTQ+ rights in Ireland but also its impact, the moments and the people that brought us to that historic day. We’re proud to help capture these powerful stories and memories that made the ‘Yes’ a reality.”

If you’d like to be featured in this exhibition, please fill out this form or drop memorabilia into Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre at 105 Capel Street. Selected submissions will feature in a public exhibition hosted at Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, as well as in an ongoing social media campaign and in GCN’s special Pride edition.
