Jane Schoenbrun is giving the people what they want: another queer horror film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson.

The new feature from the director of I Saw The TV Glow follows the journey of a young director attempting to revive an old slasher film. The director, played by Einbinder, seeks out the original film’s final girl, played by Anderson.

Let’s be clear, Schoenbrun makes films that are queer to their core. This is not representation for the sake of representation. The Mubi production is the transfeminine, non-binary director’s attempt at a sleepover classic. Schoenbrun said of the new film, “I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid.”

The director told Deadline that the upcoming film is “an insane yet cosy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store,” as reported by Deadline.

Joining Einbinder and Anderson in the cast are Amanda Fix, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Patrick Fischler, Arthur Conti, Dylan Baker, Quintessa Swindell, Jess McLeod, Louise Weard, Avalon Fast, Willy McGee, and Hunter Dillon.

The cast will also feature Jack Haven of I Saw The TV Glow, Atypical, and the actor’s directorial debut October Crow, a punk film with “No script. No money. No commercial value”. Haven will play Little Death.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will also feature original music by none other than the great Alex G and Paul Buchanan, and it’s set for a cinematic release this summer.

In addition to the upcoming movie, Schoenbrun’s first novel, Public Access Afterworld, is due to be published this year, so keep a space in your bookshelf for when it lands.

In the meantime, you can watch the teaser trailer for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma below.
