Audible has just released a brand-new audio adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic gothic novel, Dracula, with LGBTQ+ icon Jonathan Bailey starring as the vampire Count of Transylvania. The audio drama is directed by Mary Lambert and composed by Ilan Eshkeri. The cast also features Ella Purnell as Mina, Louis Partridge as Jonathan, David Johnson as Dr Seward and more.
It is currently available to listen to in English, French, Italian, Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish. German and Brazilian Portuguese translations are also set to release in 2027.
Rather than being a traditional audiobook of the original novel, Audible’s Dracula is a reimagining that centres the character of Mina Harker. The official synopsis reads: “When her fiancé vanishes in Transylvania, Mina pieces together letters, diary entries and chilling testimony to hunt the predator stalking those she loves: only to discover he’s already hunting her.”

The announcement of the audio production was met with a largely positive response online, especially regarding Jonathan’s Bailey casting, with many thirsting over his sultry voice as Count Dracula. Bailey is best known for his role as Fiyero in Wicked and Anthony Bridgerton in Bridgerton. He also made history by being the first gay man to be crowned the Sexiest Man Alive in People’s Magazine.
About Audible’s production of Dracula, their Head of Content, Aurelie de Troyer, shared: “This is what Audible does best, crafting immersive audio experiences that transport listeners into the heart of the story. When Dracula whispers in your ear, when you hear his footsteps in the dark but see no reflection, that’s when you understand why we’re the home for this story”.
She continued, “Our production elevates the psychological thriller at Dracula’s core, with the battle between Mina and Dracula as the heart of it all.” If there is one way to get into the Halloween spirit this October, it’s by listening to this immersive rendition of the timeless gothic novel.
You can listen to the production on Audible’s website.
