Nicky Byrne will NOT deny rumours he’s heading for Eurovision

Rumours have been spreading that Nicky Byrne has been selected as Ireland’s entry to Eurovision.

And, the Westlife star has come out to say he would love the gig.

Nicky is yet to confirm reports that he’ll be hitting Eurovision stage, but he is not denying it either.

“It’s not 100 percent I’m doing it — but if offered it, I would grasp it with both hands,” he said.

The 61st Eurovision is set to take place in Stockholm, Sweden in May and Nicky said voters in Europe would recognise him from Westlife, although he never got the chance to take on lead vocals.

“I knew going into Westlife I was a decent singer. You have to believe in your own ability. I absolutely get people on Twitter saying, ‘He was a backing vocalist’ — but in Westlife Shane and Mark were the producers’ favourites,”  he said.

The star says being a famous face could help him come out on top.

“In Europe they would know it was one of Westlife doing it and they would know it was that guy, the blonde one. I was part of a very successful boy band that toured the world. You would be halfway up the ladder in terms of people knowing you. That’s not necessarily going to make you do well in the show, but if you get a song on top of that, you might do well.”
