46 years ago Lewis Duckett and Billy Jones met and fell in love
Now, after the US Supreme Court made same-sex marriage legal across the States, the couple have finally been able to get married.
The pair has reportedly been together since the Vietnam War.
Jones was deployed during his first year in the military and the couple wrote coded letters to one another almost daily.
The couple also adopted a child together and are now grandparents.
They married in October 2015 at Riverside Church in Harlem.
They said of the marriage, it is “an enhancement to the relationship we had, rather than the beginning of something new.”
“For most of our 46 years together, I don’t know where I stop and he begins — it’s been that kind of blending,” Jones told The New York Times.
The New York Times featured the newlyweds in a documentary on the New York Times website.
