Happenings is showing the Panti Bliss/Rory O’Neill documentary ‘The Queen Of Ireland’ at their event on Thursday 19 May 2016, ‘YES: One Year On’

To celebrate the Yes vote of the marriage referendum last year, Happenings Centenary Cinema will be showing ‘The Queen Of Ireland’ this Thursday 19 May 2016 in Merrion Square.

The screening will be from 7:30pm until 11:30pm, and will feature food, music and a panel discussion before the film begins. The panel will include subject of the film Panti Bliss, director Conor Horgan, producer Katie Holly and journalist Una Mullally.

The Facebook event has more details:

“It’s a year since Ireland said YES in the marriage equality referendum and what a feeling it was for our nation and the gay community in Ireland and around the world. Saying yes to our evolution is essential and we need more of it in our society.

“To celebrate we are putting on a festive evening in Merrion Square. Before the screening there will be food, music and a panel discussion on the events leading up to the referendum, the film itself and where we are at one year on.”

The organisers are suggesting that people bring warm clothes and blankets, as it is meant to be a little chilly on Thursday.

The event will cost €5 to gain access to, but it promises to be well worth the small sum.

The Queen Of Ireland received a cinema release last year as well as critical acclaim with Brogen Hayes declaring “it’s essential viewing” and the Irish Times giving it five stars.

If you didn’t get a chance to see this movie in the cinema last year, or just want to get down to Merrion Square to kick off your outdoor summer cinema sessions, come on down to ‘The Queen Of Ireland’ on Thursday at 7:30pm, pay a fiver and rest assured you’re supported Panti and Irish cinema all in one fell swoop!
