A free screening of the controversial and acclaimed documentary, ‘Chemsex’ will take place in Galway this month, exploring the growing phenomenon of drug-fuelled gay sex parties

The film sheds light on gay and bisexual men using a range of legal and illegal drugs to fuel hours – or days-long sex sessions in the UK. Chemsex generally involves taking substances like GHB, Crystal meth or Mephedrone (sometimes referred to as ‘meow meow’) to enhance or prolong sexual activity. It is a phenomenon that’s growing in Ireland.

Filmed in hidden basements, bedrooms and bars across London, Chemsex exposes frankly and intimately a dark side to modern gay life. It will screen at an event this month supported and kindly funded by Galway City Council as a part of the Social Inclusion Week 2016.

The screening is also supported by AIDS West, the Galway-based sexual health charity in conjunction with the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force (WRDATF).

Chemsex screens on Thursday, November 10 at The Harbour Hotel, Galway. The screening is free of charge, but tickets must be booked and printed out in advance at eventbrite.ie.
