'RuPaul Drag Race' LEGO Set One Step Closer To Becoming A Reality

Condragulations, the required 10,000 votes have been received and the RuPaul's Drag Race LEGO set is moving onto the review stage.

LEGO version of RuPaul

After months of campaigning, a fan of Rupaul’s Drag Race has been successful in getting the RuPaul lego set of their (and our) wildest dreams to the official review stage!

LEGO has a community page where users can submit ideas for LEGO sets they would like to see. Once a user submits a project, the rest of the community votes for the ones that they like. If a project recives over 10,000 votes, it moves to the next round. This is where the project is reviewed by designers and project managers to see if it is a viable opportunity.

The user, SeeMarkGeek, originally submitted this idea and has been promoting the concept since January this year. Here’s the blurb that appears on the LEGO idea page:

“Minifigs, start your engines and may the best woman win!”

Introducing RuPaul’s Brick Race, a LEGO Ideas project inspired by LOGO TV’s long-running RuPaul’s Drag Race.

RuPaul’s Brick Race includes a cast of fan favourites who can prepare for, and compete in, Clutch Game – a family-friendly equivalent of a popular celebrity impersonation challenge from the series (in the style of Match Game and Blankety-Blanks).

The review process will begin in January 2018 and it could be a number of months before a decision is announced.

When the review is complete, LEGO will inform the public of their decision. If green-lit, this project will go into the longest phase; the Development phase. During this time, LEGO model designers refine the product and develop it for release, they create the product materials (box, instructions, marketing), and get everything ready for a production run. This could take anything from several months to a year.

It gained significant media attention in the first half of 2017 and it reached the milestone of 5,000 votes in less than 3 months. It has taken a further 8 months to achieve 10,000 votes.

We have some time to wait before confirmation that this project will go ahead, but for now, can we just appreciate how delightful these mock-ups are. Click on the first image to view the entire gallery.
