A new window display featuring a special version of Maser’s repeal mural, created by graphic artist Niall Sweeney has been unveiled at Pantibar.

Panti Bar launches Maser repeal window display

“It was something we were always going to do; we were always going to give our windows up to the campaign.”

Dublin gay bar, Pantibar, has launched a new window display supporting repeal of the eighth amendment in the referendum on May 25.

The windows feature a double version of the image used in the Maser mural that was removed from the Project Arts Centre for a second time on April 23, after intervention by the Charities Regulator.

“I was so disappointed that it was taken down again,” says Pantibar manager, Shane Harte. “We’re happy to get on board to share it. It was something we were always going to do; we were always going to give our windows up to the campaign.”

The Pantibar window display is designed by regular Panti collaborator, Niall Sweeney.

“It was his decision to do something with the Maser image, to ‘Pantify’ it a bit by putting the dots around it,” says Harte. “It ties in nicely with the front of the building.”

Harte says he will be voting Yes in the referendum himself. “We already have abortion in Ireland,” he says. “It’s just so cruel of putting women in the position of having to travel when they’re in such difficult situations. We should be able to take care of them at home and have more compassion.”

A photograph of the windows shared on Panti’s Facebook timeline has already had almost 1.5k likes and has been shared over 100 times since it was posted today at 2pm.

“We’ve had an amazing, positive reaction so far,” says Harte. “Maybe some other businesses in the area will follow suit and give up their windows to support a Yes vote.”

A version of the Maser mural has also been painted on the side of the Amnesty International Ireland building in Temple Bar.
