#20gayteen continues with the release of The Miseducation of Cameron Post trailer, directed by Desiree Akhavan and starring Chloë Grace Moretz.

The film is based on a novel with the same name, published in 2012, written by Emily M. Danforth. It tells the story of Cameron Post, a teenage girl who lives with her conservative aunt after the death of her parents. After she’s caught in the backseat of a car with the school’s prom queen, Post is sent to a gay “cure” camp.

The movie won the grand jury award for drama at the Sundance Film Festival- the highest honour.

In the trailer, we watch as Post signs the agreement to attend God’s Promise. The other disciples at the camp flash by on the screen as we see their interactions with the centre’s directors and Post while they all navigate their “same-sex attraction”.

Post finds a place among fellow outcasts, Jane and Adam, who become close friends as they share stories of their personal experiences growing up LGBT+.

“I’m tired of feeling disgusted with myself,” Post says in one scene.

At the film’s premiere in January, Moretz discussed what it was like working on this project in America’s current political climate.

“The (Trump) administration actually completely believes in conversion therapy,” she said. “Mike Pence tried to get it state-funded when he was Senator, so it is a very real problem.”

Only 13 of 50 states have outright banned gay conversion therapy. The most recent being New Hampshire. The bill in June 2018, but won’t be effective until next January.

Some 37 counties in various states around the US have banned the practices.

Last week, the UK announced their plan to ban gay “cure” therapy as part of a new LGBT+ action plan.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is expected to hit theatres in the US on August 3. It’ll be released in the UK on August 31, 2018.
