An organisation called the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values (NCPHSRFV) in Ghana is set to host a ‘gay cure’ camp created to treat and convert repentant homosexuals. The event, titled ‘Exploring The Myths Surrounding LGBT+ Rights’, will counsel and “reform” the “400 men and women [who] voluntarily surrendered themselves and registered with the coalition to undergo counselling after a sexual evangelism programme.”

The Coalition’s leader, Moses Foh-Amoaning, also told reporters of plans to set up a Holistic Sexual Therapy Unit at a local hospital to deal with “victims of homosexuality”. This Unit would bring together religious leaders, doctors psychologists and experts in traditional medicine in an effort to rid Ghana of homosexuals through the process of conversion therapies.

Foh-Amoaning continued by revealing the Coalition are also currently working on a Bill, entitled ‘Who Is On The Lord’s Side’, which they will present to Parliament upon completion with a view to introduce it into law. The Bill describes how best to deal with LGBT+ people and comes with the disturbing promise “We will make our punishment corrective instead of punitive”. It would separate LGBT+ people into two groups – the penitent and the irredeemable – and assign punishments based on whichever category the “guilty” person is put into.

The National Coalition have multiple links with Western Christian evangelical and Catholic groups notorious for spreading anti-gay ideology across the continent. Foh-Amoaning had previously stated that some people “become homosexual because of peer pressure, economic reasons” and “hormonal imbalance”, but promised that “surgical teams” and Christian ministers could help.

He followed with the threat: “But for those who think it is a lifestyle and they want others to get involved, the law will deal with them. We will clearly define what homosexuality is, what LGBT entails, and if they are caught, they will be prosecuted.”
