Lesbian Lawyers Network To Host Information Evening On Irish Law And LGBT+ Families

This Friday, an information evening will be held to let people know about the current status of LGBT+ Families under the law and the future for them if all parts of the Children and Family Relationships Act 2015 are commenced and the Assisted Human Reproduction (AHR) Bill is passed.

This event will include a talk from solicitor Fiona Duffy who will detail the current facts. Speaking ahead of the event, organisers said:  “We won’t be providing legal advice to any attendees. Nor will we be advocating any lobbying of government in relation to these pieces of legislation. Our speaker, solicitor Fiona Duffy, will just be giving the facts as they currently stand.”

The subject of legislation for same-sex parents in Ireland is an intricate and complex topic that has often been misconstrued in the media.

Most recently it was widely reported that the latest amendments to the Children and Families Relationship Act would result in all lesbian parents soon receiving the same rights as their straight counterparts while this is far from reality.

Lesbian Lawyers Network To Host Information Evening On Irish Law And LGBT+ Families

The Lesbian Lawyers Network (LLN) it a networking and advocacy group for lesbians working within the Irish legal profession which had its launch event in December last year.

The group wants to improve the visibility of lesbian lawyers to ensure that gay women know that they can have a successful and supported career in law. They aim to achieve this by facilitating introductions and networking between lesbian lawyers.

Lesbians face a diverse set of challenges both professionally and personally and LLN seek to provide advocacy, information and support through our network. They will host talks from leading lesbians in the legal world and also round table discussions about the difficulties facing lesbians in their careers.

It is hoped that the existence of this network will encourage lesbians to consider a career in law and to feel welcome in the legal sphere. The goal is for all lesbians lawyers to feel comfortable in their place of work.

Shaping LGBT+ Modern Families‘ takes place on Friday, March 22 at 6 pm in Arthur Cox Solicitors on Earlsfort Terrace. RSVP by email to [email protected]
