Absolutely Fabulous Film on the Way, Sweetie

Dig out your best vintage Christian LaCroix, and get the Bollie out sweetie darling – the Absolutely Fabulous movie is officially, legitimately happening.

While at the Hay Festival in Wales promoting her new book, Bonkers: My Life in Laughs, show creator/writer Jennifer Saunders confirmed that she is writing the inevitable masterpiece. She told the literature crowd, “I am writing the film as we speak – it’s in the pipeline. I’m hoping it will be released by the end of 2015”.

Absolutely Fabulous made its way into the lives of viewers in 1992 introducing neurotic PR executive Edina Monsoon and her pill-popping, champagne-swilling ‘international beauty and style guru’ best friend Patsy Stone, played by the legendary Joanna Lumley.

The series ran for three seasons before the pair reunited in 2001 for a further two seasons. Three glamorous specials ran in 2012 to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary.

Through the years the hit series developed a multi-generational cult following – including more than its fair share of gay fans – and had many a guest star, including Whoopi Goldberg, Naomi Campbell, Lulu, Helena Bonham Carter and Kate Moss.

In March, 55 year-old Saunders confirmed she is undergoing hypnotherapy to allow her to finish the script for the film, as she made a deal with comedy writing partner Dawn French that she would pay her £100,000 if she failed to produce the goods. Let’s hope real-life Saunders is less of a procrastinator – Patsy’s nearly 70 and won’t be able to pull off that “39” lie much longer, no matter how many pills she pops!
