Adam Lambert: Straight Popstars Shouldn't Pander to Gay Audience

Adam Lambert, he of American Idol fame, has taken to Twitter to criticise straight male popstars for pandering to their gay audiences.

The For Your Entertainment singer revealed his views last week, wondering whether or not this new gay-friendly approach is progressive or a strategic move on the part of the popstars.

He criticised journalists who insist on finding out about the sexuality and beliefs of every popstar who has at least some gay following.

This comes off the back of the recent barrage of gay/bi rumours that surround One Direction’s Harry Styles. After claiming gender is “not important”, he told his bandmate, Niall Horan, that he shouldn’t dismiss dating a man until he’s actually tried it.

Not to mention the new and improved gay-friendly Nick Jonas doing everything he can to show how open-minded and loving he is of his new gay fanbase. The former ‘purity-enthusiast’ has recently rebranded himself as Abs McMuscles and has become the poster-boy of gay fantasies.

Jonas recently did an interview with PrideSource about his gay fans and why he has chosen this time in his career to embrace them (definitely figuratively, perhaps literally):

When I was setting up this record and meeting with the team about it, I told them that I really wanted to make an effort to embrace that part of my audience. I’ve known for a long time that it is a great part of the audience, and I just never felt like we made all the effort we could to embrace them. It’s been really fun and really incredible.

One has to wonder if it is all just coincidence or if they are all after the ‘gay dollahs’.
