Amuse Bouche: Taurean & Kevin From Two Boys Brew

Taurean Coughlan and Kevin Roche are the owners of the specialty coffee and food space Two Boys Brew.


We caught up with the co-owners of Phibsborough’s Two Boys Brew, Taurean Coughlan & Kevin Roche.

This gorgeous coffee place in Phibsborough is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch.

Weekend brunch is available all day and some of the specialities include roasted mushrooms with free range eggs and sourdough as well as the new smokey beans with lemon chive cream cheese and sourdough.




1. The gayest thing about your restaurant?

Probably the Spotify playlist we blast at the end of the day – the team love it!


2. Your ideal party of five, living or dead?

This is a hard one! Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Caroline Fleming, Oprah and Alan Carr.


3. Your favourite place to eat, other than your own, in Dublin?

We love casual dining & what’s happening with the cafe scene at the moment in Dublin. 777 is always a winner when it comes to dinner. The best meal we’ve had in Dublin over the last few years was in The Butcher Grill. Meet Me In The Morning is such a great spot and we love to visit Bibi’s too, for their Butternut Squash Eggs and Brownies!


4. If you weren’t restaurateurs, what would you be doing?

I [Taurean] am absolutely nuts about magazines and have quite the collection, so I think I’d have to do something in the magazine world. We visited Berlin & Munich a few years back and they both had a store called Soda, which was the slickest magazine store I’d ever seen. I’d love to bring something similar to Dublin one day.


5. What/Who or Where is rocking your world in restaurants right now?

I visited London recently and ate at Granger & Co. which brought me right back to my days in Sydney. I’d say Bill Granger is my idol when it comes to the restaurant world – what he’s created around the world is fantastic and his idea of relaxed casual dining within a neighbourhood setting was part of the inspiration behind opening up Two Boys Brew, out of the main city centre in an area that’s on the up.

We’re huge fans of what John Farrell is doing in Dublin. He’s really pushed the envelope and I’m so excited to see what he does next.

There’s also a real wealth of amazing food and coffee spots up North that people need to visit – places like Middletown Coffee in Ballymena, Root & Branch Coffee Roasters and General Merchants in Belfast and Lost & Found in Coleraine.

We’re also very excited to visit our friends at Pudding Row in Sligo this summer when they’re back open and check out some spots along the west coast.



6. What does the future hold for dining?

The past few years has seen a big rise in young people returning to Ireland from their travels abroad bringing with them a wealth of new influences and exciting ideas which are being introduced to the Irish dining scene.

There’s a whole a new generation of food business owners, chefs, food writers and bloggers bringing a fresh, interesting perspective to Irish food and we’re really excited see what’s going to happen in the year ahead.
