February 2026 marks GCN’s 38th year in publishing. Since 1988, GCN (Gay Community News) has been Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media and paper of record. For almost four decades, GCN has been a key resource to inform, educate, connect the community, fight misinformation and advocate for a more equal society.
We share the stories and lived experiences of everyday people, platform the vital work of community organisations and activists, celebrate our culture, document our community’s milestones, and provide a safe, trusted space where LGBTQ+ voices are heard, represented, and amplified.
In recent years, the global political climate has grown increasingly hostile, with a rise in anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, misinformation and ongoing underrepresentation of LGBTQ+ identities, and attempts to erase or demonise parts of our community.
Now more than ever, our community needs a free, accessible and independent media organisation that tells our side of the story, and it is vital that GCN remains a trustworthy platform where LGBTQ+ voices are represented and amplified.
As the trading name of National LGBTQ+ Federation CLG, a registered charity, GCN operates on limited funds and resources. In recent years, we have been significantly impacted by the cost-of-living crisis and rising costs, including print production.
Despite these challenges, GCN remains committed to being a free, accessible and reliable resource for all, and we need your support to ensure we can continue our mission.
If you are in a position to do so, please consider giving GCN a birthday gift by donating what you can below or at this link. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference.
***If you make a yearly donation of €250 or more, you are eligible for tax relief.***
Thank you & much love,
The GCN Team
