A transgender man, whose face had been cut off, was found dead by his adopted son
Mr Yoshi Tsuchida, 38, from Toyko, appeared to have had his face “sliced off with a knife or another sharp instrument”, a police spokesman said.
Mr Tsuchida’s adult son returned to the home they shared in west Tokyo early on Thursday morning.
He fell asleep but later discovered Tsuchida, whose faceless head was covered with a plastic bag.
“When I woke up my father was bleeding from the face,” a local newspaper reported him as saying.
Tsuchida’s son, who has not yet been named, called the police and Tsuchida was confirmed dead two hours later.
It is believed that Mr Tsuchida adopted his son only recently – it is common in Japan for adult men to be adopted.
It is reported that his son was also trans and currently receiving female hormone treatment. However, he still identifies as male.
It is also reported that there was a history of violence between the two men and that police officers had previously visited their apartment after receiving complaints about noise.
It is yet to be established if the murder was a hate crime.
