Bruno Gagliasso and João Vicente de Castro took a stand against homophobia this weekend, when they locked lips at the Brazil GQ Men of the Year Awards.

During the prestigious ceremony in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, Gagliasso kissed his fellow actor during the live broadcast to protest against homophobia in the country and to break the “macho men” stereotype. The straight actors sent the media into a frenzy with their PDA!

Gagliasso has always been an advocate for LGBT rights, having portrayed a gay character on Brazilian soap opera, América

“It was a kiss of hope, of love,” Gagliasso, said after the ceremony. “[It was] to show that we are working against intolerance, small-mindedness and hypocrisy.”
