Former Olympian and reality star, Caitlyn Jenner, broke the internet yesterday by revealing her new identity.

Caitlyn Jenner – formerly Bruce – was yesterday revealed on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine as her true self and the internet imploded. Along with the cover (shot by the legendary Annie Leibovitz), Vanity Fair magazine also publish a behind-the-scenes video.

On the same day, Jenner set up a Twitter account and gained more than 1 million followers in four hours, beating even Obama in the fastest growing account on Twitter.

The former Olympian winner’s identity has been the subject of speculation for the last year or so – with many wondering about whether or not she is transgender – until she revealed her true identity over a month ago.

Now Caitlyn Jenner has revealed herself in spectacular fashion, dressed in a silk bustier and photographed by the world-renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz. The Jenner/Kardashian family immediately took to Twitter to show their support:

Caitlyn’s ex-wife Kris was notably absent from the well wishes of her family. However her famous family weren’t the only ones to celebrate her cover shoot, with celebrities, politicians and LGBT activists all announcing their appreciation and love for Jenner.

While Barack Obama didn’t seem too upset that Caitlyn stole his record-breaking crown:

Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox celebrated Caitlyn’s cover, before posting an opinion piece on her Tumblr, discussing cisnormative beauty standards and privilege. But, as always, not everyone is as supportive as one could hope. Drake Bell – that Nickelodeon kid who used to be semi-famous – tweeted, and quickly deleted, a transphobic message about Caitlyn’s cover.

Many Twitter users jumped to Caitlyn’s defense, informing Drake that his tweet was uncalled for. In a message that was also deleted, he added: “I’m not dissing him! I just don’t want to forget his legacy! He is the greatest athlete of all time! Chill out!” Unsurprisingly, Fox News decided to cover the story in the only way they know how – offensively. Check out the video below if you can stomach it.

In an amazing turn of events, Caitlyn Jenner’s resemblance to Jessica Lange – the latter even trended on Twitter because of it – has caused Lange to speak about the comparisons. The Daily Beast first had to explain what ‘trending’ means, before revealing the comparisons to Lange.

“Oh really?” she said. “That’s so wonderful. Well now I’m going to have to look for that picture. […] Trending on Twitter because Caitlyn Jenner on the cover—you see I don’t do any of this stuff, the Internet,” she said. “So I have no clue when people use this terminology. I have to repeat it to understand.”

Well, Caitlyn Jenner, that is one way to upstage the announcement of Kim Kardashian’s second baby!
