Right at the start of Pride month, actor Chris Evans joined the cacophony of voices taking issue with the concept of straight pride with a tweet to his 12 million plus followers.
A proposed straight pride event is to take place in Boston on August 31st, organized by the group Super Happy Fun America. For days, Twitter has been dragging and completely tearing apart the event, which is sure to be full of khaki pants and Nickelback.

Somehow, he tackled toxic masculinity, emotional repression, and the roots of homophobia in 280 characters or less.
He followed up the tweet with a second, equally powerful punch:

Calls for empathy and growth are much needed, according to many users on Twitter.
The social media platform could not get enough of the easy-on-the-eyes star’s surprising response to the misconstrued and tone-deaf event.
One Twitter user pointed out that the star had “snapped.”

There was also a call for Chris Evans to replace police at the Boston event

Finally, sarcastic comments were made about a potential 2020 run for the actor

Whether or not Evans will run in 2020, he is surely being widely celebrated for poignantly and effectively eliminating any thought that straight pride has a place in the world.
Users around the world agree that it is refreshing and important for straight actors to wield their seemingly infinite power and privilege to take stances on issues such as this. His tweets are a shining example to allies everywhere, exemplifying the ability to tackle the issue head-on and make your opinion heard.
Evans’ movie Avengers: End Game is still playing in theaters.
