Community Foundation For Ireland Encourages People To Leave A Charitable Gift To LGBT+ Funds In Their Wills

A tax-free gift to an LGBT+ charity is a great way to make an impact on the community in Ireland.

My Legacy Week 2018 launches on October 29. As part of this, The Community Foundation for Ireland is encouraging people to think about leaving a gift in their will for charity. The week runs from October 29 until November 4.

My Legacy is an umbrella group of 60 Irish charities whose goals are to create social change; to increase the low level of will making in Ireland and to make the act of gifting to charities in wills the norm. The organisation, which was founded in 2000, has been one of the most committed and consistent supporters of LGBT+ groups across Ireland.

A great way to give back to the LGBT+ community in Ireland is to consider including a legacy gift to the LGBT+ fund at My Legacy’s Community Foundation.

Fergal O’Sullivan, the chairperson of My Legacy said:

“When you’re making your will, you will naturally look after your family and your loved ones first. Once all other personal decisions have been made, you might want to acknowledge a cause you feel strongly about. This thoughtful support will have an impact in the future.”

Niall O’Sullivan, the fund development advisor spoke about the impact of leaving a legacy gift in one’s will:

“When people choose to leave a gift to the LGBT+ fund at The Community Foundation for Ireland, they are helping to ensure that LGBT+ issues in Ireland will continue to get independent support in the years ahead. As needs change so the grants made from the fund will change.

“Among recent projects supported by the fund has been a project promoting positive mental health resilience, personal development and cultural integration for migrants run by Outhouse and a translation project of key online information for LGBT+ migrants on the services from BeLonG To and partners in mental health, sexual health, drugs and alcohol.”

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.

During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.

GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
