Cork drag queen Krystal Queer is taking her fundraising efforts to new heights, announcing plans to climb Carrauntoohil in full drag at the end of October to support Gaza Go Bragh, a humanitarian organisation providing support to displaced families throughout the Strip.
The performer shared the news on social media, saying: “I just wanted to pop on and let you know that at the end of October, I’m going to be climbing Carrauntoohil in full drag to raise funds for Gaza Go Bragh.”
Standing at 1,039 metres, Carrauntoohil in Co Kerry is Ireland’s highest mountain. Discover Ireland describes the climb as difficult and best suited to experienced hikers, with the journey to the summit generally taking between four and six hours.
Speaking to GCN, Krystal said, “I’ll be walking with my fellow drag queen Liam Bee’s dad, Noel. He knows the route well and is going to guide me along. I’m very grateful for him!”
The popular Devil’s Ladder route is around 12km long and involves a steep scramble towards the summit, meaning Krystal’s decision to tackle the mountain in drag will add another challenge to an already demanding climb.

It won’t be the first time Krystal has combined drag with an endurance challenge for the organisation.
“Last time Krystal & The Queers held a fundraiser for Gaza Go Bragh, we raised over 3k, so we are hoping to top it again this year!” Krystal tells us.
In November 2024, Krystal Queer completed a 10km run around the city in full drag, raising almost €3,000 for Gaza Go Bragh. Beginning and ending at Cork LGBTQ+ venue Wilde, the fundraiser also included performances from members of the city’s drag community, with participating queens donating more than half of their wages from the night.
Speaking to GCN following the event, Krystal said: “I am very lucky to have the utmost support and love from my community here in Cork. I’ll forever be grateful to them, and I’m blessed that they raised almost €3,000 for such an important cause.”
Gaza Go Bragh is an Irish organisation raising funds to provide humanitarian assistance in Gaza. Its fundraising page says donations support its work, and previous campaigns have raised money for necessities including food, water and shelter.
Cork drag queen Krystal Queer has long been a familiar face in Cork’s LGBTQ+ community. Alongside her work as a drag performer, she has been involved with Cork’s LGBTQ+ GAA club Na Laochra Aeracha and was among the performers involved in protests over changes to the former Chambers LGBTQ+ venue in 2023.
Her Carrauntoohil fundraiser is scheduled for the end of October. You can donate here.
