Bodybuilder, Aydian Dowling, may be the first trans hunk to cover Men’s Health Magazine.
Usually the cover of fitness mag, Men’s Health, is reserved for super famous beefcakes like David Beckham,Zac Efron, Usher or Chris Hemsworth – but for one issue only, readers are battling it out to be voted “the ultimate guy” and become the next face of Men’s Health.
The competition description says the winner will be a guy who is “fit and fearless – a guy who gives back and leads by example”.
One man vying for his place on the prestigious cover is 27 year-old entrepreneur from , Adyian Dowling. Going by Dowling’s application, he could just have what it takes to be the “fit and fearless” guy they need. “The battle that can come with the mirror can be completely dark and engulfing,” he writes. “As a Transgender Male, having a healthy body and mind is my ultimate goal to find peace within my soul. Although I may always have some kind of battle with my body, I continue to work everyday for a happy peace within.”
The winner will be crowned based on Facebook votes, and Aydian Dowling is currently in the lead with a whopping double the amount of votes as the current runner up. If placed on the cover, he will make history by being the first trans man to be featured.
Dowling has been in the public eye since he began blogging about his transition in 2009, and earlier this year a photo of him in FTM Magazine recreating the famous Cosmo UK nude snap of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine went viral.
If Dowling is picked as the winner, it would be an incredible step towards normalising trans people in the mainstream media. We’re rooting for you, Aydian!
