Demi Lovato has come under fire for including a controversial image of Russian president Vladimir Putin in her performance at New York Pride.

During her performance of new gay anthem Really Don’t Care , Lovato had two of her male dancers make out on stage, while one of them covered his “unmentionables” with a cardboard cut out of the homophobic politician’s face.

Despite Putin being hugely unpopular, some Twitter users gave the singer some flak for the stunt. The staunch gay rights supporter took to Twitter to post a sassy tweet defending the move.

Lovato clearly didn’t dwell on the haters too long. She spent the rest of her night at the Stonewall Inn, the historic venue that is widely considered the birthplace of the gay rights movement in the US.
