Last night at the Teen Choice Awards 2015, Ellen Degeneres accepted her award with empowering speech about coming out.

Ellen took home the gong for Choice Comedian at last nights awards ceremony  and she had a powerful speech for the young people watching at home and in the crowd.

“It feels good to be chosen, but there was a time in my life that I was not chosen. I was the opposite of chosen because I was different. And I think I want to make sure that everyone knows that what makes you different right now makes you stand out later in life. So you should be proud of being different,” she said, of her experience coming out.

It was a happy occasion for another reason though – last night also happened to be her seventh wedding anniversary.

She dedicated her speech to her wife, Portia De Rossi. Cute!
