Fortune’s Fool Productions Presents the Irish Premier of ‘Gidion’s Knot’.

Performed by Aoibhéann McCann and Stephanie Courtney, Gidion’s Knot is a powerful play about Gidion’s teacher (McCann) and Gidion’s mother (Courtney), who are trying to come to terms with his very recent suicide.

Gidion’s Knot hopes to raise awareness of the questions surrounding suicide, bullying and sexuality identity among adolescents by producing a play that deals with the roles and responsibilities of educators, school administrators and parents when sexual abuse and sexual identity are not addressed.

This play will be particularly poignant for Irish audiences due to the extremely high occurrence of suicide among young men in this country and the impending Marriage Referendum.

While the subject matter is about primary school, the material in the play is very adult and this play is not recommended for children under the age of 13.

The Washington Post hailed Gidion’s Knot as “Resonant… [a] particularly eloquent study of people caught between the competing demands of reason, morality and family harrowing a narrative that is as elegant as it is chilling.”
