As we celebrate family at this year’s Dublin Pride festival, let us not forget about an extremely important member of many queer families: our pets.
They have been a huge part of many famous queers lives. Ellen Degeneres is well known for her love of animals, she and Portia have numerous pets at home but most recently Portia set up The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund.
Elton John had a long friendship with dog Arthur who unfortunately passed away last month. During a concert in Vegas, Elton dedicated ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’ to his beloved pet.
Every year at the Pride Parade, some of the finest allies to come out in force are our pets who march pridefully by our sides.
