In an exciting turn of events, yours truly has been added to the 100 Archive which celebrates and highlights graphic design.

GCN had been added for its magazine rebrand and magazine design which was led by the awesome Dave Darcy.

Every year, the 100 Archive presents the best of Irish communication design and the impact it has on our lives and times by selecting 100 recent projects from branding to packaging, digital to print, typography to motion and more which their two selection panels consider worthy of archiving. it provides an essential design and cultural resource for individual designers, the design industry, collaborators, clients and the public.

The work shows the breadth and quality of contemporary Irish communication design practice how it touches on culture, commerce and society in Ireland and all around the world.

Dave has been the art director for the company for over seven years and led the magazine through its beautiful and thoughtful rebrand. He is responsible for all visual communications and branding. Dave is also the guy behind One Strong Arm – a Letterpress Print studio based in Dublin.

In celebration of GCN’s milestone anniversary, Dave collaborated with curator Tonie Walsh to deliver the stunning exhibition Proof: 30 Years Of Gay Community News.

At the exhibition launch, Tonie Walsh shared the importance of GCN: “When mainstream society ignore our stories and civil society and Government have attempted to expunge any evidence of our lives and the tools we use to communicate with each other, we look to publications like GCN and others before it to be a witness to our struggle.”

The design element is very much integral to the success of magazine and to get our message across in a visually appealing way. GCN is honoured to be recognised with inclusion in the Archive. Congratulations to all the other projects selected.

Support GCN

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.

During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.

GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
