The George & The Dragon on the Market

Dublin’s two most iconic gay bars have been put on the market by instruction of the receivers of Capitol Bar Group, the Irish Independent has reported.

The city’s two major gay clubs – The George and The Dragon – both located on South Great Georges Street are each on the market with a price tag of €3.5 million.

The George first opened its doors in 1985, eight years before homosexuality was legalised in Ireland. It is recognised as being one of the city’s most well-known bars. The Dragon, which opened in 2006, has proved a popular alternative with Dublin’s LGBT community.

Dawson Street’s Café en Seine, along with Howl at the Moon on Mount Street, are also included in the sale, priced €3.5 and €1.5 million respectively.

The seller is open to bids for the entire portfolio of bars or individual sales.
