GBBO finalist Tamal Ray has opened up about his experience of coming out as gay

 

The 29-year-old earned a big following when he appeared on the hit BBC One show earlier this year.

The contestant says, “Although the actual coming out conversations themselves were giant canyons of awkwardness, the little freedoms they gave me were priceless: to be able to talk about relationships honestly or make a passing comment about which character on The OC was the hottest (Seth, obviously).”
He also writes about his apprehensions:

“Would I lose any of them over this?”

“Those guys, who I’d worried might turn cold, did the opposite.”

In September of this year, in an interview with the Radio Times, Tamal revealed he is gay. He had been asked if he had a girlfriend, and he replied: “I wouldn’t have a girlfriend, I would have a boyfriend.”

”But I’m single at the moment,” he added.

The contestant was very popular with men and women, receiving a constant flow of tweets from fans before and after coming out to the Radio Times.

He says he found all the attention humorous but it left him a bit red-faced.

“Some of the lustier tweets have had me crying with laughter,” he tweeted.
