Homo Conscious pride event to feature workshops including nude candlelit yoga, breath-work and exploring conscious touch in a queer safe space

Four portraits pieced together.

Homo Conscious is a free event taking place during Dublin LGBTQ Pride. It features a variety of workshops exploring areas such a conscious touch, breathwork and yoga in a queer space. The event is open to all varieties of sexual orientation no matter where you fall on the gender spectrum.

Some of the six workshops available include a candlelit yoga session (with one of the sessions being unclothed), “Enjoy Your Voice” led by vocal coach and voice therapist Helena Walsh,‘Trio Body Scan’ led by Kieran McBride and many more. We spoke to Kieran, who is organising the event. He hopes that it will be a great place for people to “unwind, ground yourself and have a laugh” during the Pride festival assuring us that the event is suitable for absolute beginners “It’s not Poe faced, it’s not religious, […] you’re actually going to unwind, loosen up and connect to other people.”

Kieran who has led yoga and meditation in Outhouse before has said it was important to him to “make it queer-focused […] also affordable.” “A lot of the times when you see things advertised for things like a yoga retreat it really is for well off professionals. It’s not for students, it’s not for that 19-year-old trans kid who just would love to have that space but can’t afford it.” The Homo Conscious event will be a queer safe space and free for all to attend.

He spoke about how Pride is the perfect time to have an alcohol and drug-free event like this: “Pride is that time of the year where we all come together, we see people we haven’t seen all year. And we get to celebrate ourselves and our brothers and sisters in the Queer world, that’s great. This is a space where we get to go and we don’t have to do the drugs and we don’t have to take any drink and we get to actually connect to other people”

He hopes that the event will facilitate LGBT+ people to meet new people and make friends and meaningful connections “you never know you might meet someone new, who you’ve never met before in Dublin and make a connection. You’ll discover them not through an app or a two-dimensional image but actually see them in their eyes, look at them, say hello and that might be a new friendship or who knows what.”

Homo Conscious takes place June 22, 12:00 am – 6:00 pm in Outhouse, 105 Capel Street.  You can find the Facebook event with workshop times here.
