I’m Grand Mam hosts PJ Kirby and Kevin Twomey will front a brand-new series for RTÉ Labs, Kevin and PJ Obsessed, following the duo as they delve into Ireland’s most unique and passionate communities and explore what makes people tick.
Described by RTÉ as comedy-entertainment, the series will bring Kevin and PJ face-to-face with people who have dedicated themselves to unusual hobbies and interests. The duo will be taking a special look at what drives these individuals and how common interests can bring people together and build communities.
The podcast hosts are no strangers to television, having featured in the second season of Help Me Buy A Home, which aired last year on Virgin Media One. Each episode saw them joined by buyer’s agent Liz O’Kane as they discussed the challenges of the current Irish housing market.
The pair have also appeared in advertisements for brands including Applegreen and Sky Ireland Broadband, where they were joined by fellow Cork native Roy Keane.
The new series is set to bring their distinct style of comedy to a wider television audience. Kevin and PJ Obsessed will air this December on RTÉ.
Originally from Cork, the best friends found huge success with their podcast, I’m Grand Mam. Created in 2019 while the pair were living in London together, the podcast’s title came from the phrase they would repeatedly use when speaking to their mothers over the phone.
Episodes cover topics including queer culture, modern dating and stories from their childhoods in Ireland. Their cheeky sense of humour resonated with many listeners and helped launch their careers in the Irish entertainment industry.
The Corkonians went on to enjoy successful tour runs, namely That’s Showbiz and Happy Campers, the latter finishing in Ireland earlier this year. The duo will be taking Happy Campers overseas in December, with dates scheduled across Australia and New Zealand.
I’m Grand Mam remains hugely popular, having celebrated its seventh anniversary earlier this year.
