As the US continues to debate bathroom access rights for trans citizens, Donald Trump’s statement that he would be “fine” with Caitlyn Jenner using the ladies’ bathroom in Trump Tower was put to the test when Jenner called his bluff and documented the event on Facebook.
Last week, while the GOP candidate appeared on the popular Today show, host Matt Lauer attempted to gauge Trump’s opinion on North Carolina and Mississippi‘s controversial bathroom laws, by asking him if someone like Caitlyn Jenner would be permitted to use the ladies’ toilets in Trump Towers.
“If Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and wanted to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses,” Lauer asked him.
“That is correct,” Trump responded, reports The Washington Post.
Caitlyn Jenner decide to call Trump’s bluff by using one of the bathrooms at the Trump International Hotel and Tower. The event was captured on video and later posted to Facebook.
After paying a visiting that bathroom, Jenner exits and tells the camera: “Thank you, Donald, really appreciate it. And by the way, Ted [Cruz], nobody got molested.”
Jenner’s comment about Cruz is in direct opposition to her earlier support of the Republican senator.
In an interview with The Advocate last March, Jenner – herself a Republican – said that although Cruz is “probably one of the worst ones when it comes to trans issues” she likes the Texas senator because he’s “a great constitutionalist and a very articulate man.”
Jenner’s comments generated considerable criticism among the trans community, of whom she has become de facto spokesperson since coming out in April of last year.
