Joan Rivers – comedian, author and apparently ordained minister – used the power vested in her by the state of New York yesterday at an impromptu gay wedding between two of her fans at an NYC Barnes & Noble where she was signing copies of her new book, Diary of a Mad Diva.

Ecstatic: The couple didn’t expect their wish to be granted by Joan Rivers

The 81 year-old Fashion Police host was in the middle of a Q&A session with her fans when Jed Ryan and Joe Aiello, a gay couple who have been together for three years, asked the comedian would marry them right there and then.

Never one to miss an opportunity for spur-of-the-moment fun, Rivers got the pair on stage, had them hold hands and came up with some off-the-cuff trademark humorous vows for the couple.

It was when the controversial comedy queen mentioned that she was an ordained minister that the couple came up with the idea, “I said to Ryan, ‘Do you think it’s true, maybe she’ll marry us’ and he said ‘Ask her’, so I did. I don’t think he really thought I would, and neither one of us thought she’d say yes”, Aiello told Entertainment Tonight.

After a short and sweet ceremony, the couple kissed and an emotional Rivers congratulated the couple, clapping along with the rest of the packed audience.
