Ever controversial comedian Joan Rivers told a report this week that US President Barack Obama is gay and his wife Michelle is “a transgender”.

The 81-year-old made the comments while presiding over the wedding of two fans at a bookshop in New York earlier this week. When asked by a reporter if she thought the US would ever see a gay president, she replied “We already have it with Obama, so let’s just calm down.”

She added “You know Michelle is a tranny.” When the reporter asked her to confirm what she had said, Rivers said, “A transgender. We all know.”

Rivers is no stranger to controversy: earlier this year she garnered column inches by calling Kim Kardashian’s infant daughter North “ugly” and saying the child was “desperately in need of a waxing”.
