The queen of rom-coms Katherine Heigl stars in upcoming indie film ‘Jenny’s Wedding’, and now it looks like it is set to hit cinemas next year.
After wrapping up filming in Cleveland last year, the independent feature film is expected to pick up a distributor at this year’s American Film Market. If it is successful, we’ll see the lesbian rom-com hit mainstream cinemas.
Rom-com veteran, Katherine Heigl plays Jenny, a gay woman who lives as an out and proud lesbian to everyone – except her conservative family. Now, Jenny is planning to marry the woman whom they thought was merely her roommate. Conflict ensues!
Jenny’s Wedding first gained attention last year, when fans pledged $96,000 on IndieGogo to cover the cost of post-production.
The film is written, directed and produced by Mary Agnes Donoghue (Beaches and Veronica Guerin) and also stars Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls, Sin City).
Donoghue says that everyone who worked on the film are extremely passionate about it, and that the story is loosely based on the journeys people in her own life.
She said, “There is a ‘Jenny’ in my life and family but this really isn’t her story, but the people who inspired the story have told me that they felt that we had captured them in the film.”
Earlier this year, filmmakers and cast produced a short video talking about the film in an effort to raise money to finish production.
