AMACH! LGBT Galway has announced that Galway City Council has pledged €25,000 to their LGBT Centre project.

Cllr. Pearce Flannery (Galway City West) made a motion to make these funds available to AMACH!LGBT for the LGBT Centre project and it will come to light in the 2015 city budget. The motion was supported by all of the councilors and the CEO of the City Council, much to the delight of the community group.

The group says that this is a coup for the city, as it displays a greater sense of inclusion for all of those in society. “We are delighted that Galway City Council has joined this Inter Agency working group approach to providing vital supports and services for Galway’s LGBT community and their families,” AMACH! wrote of the decision on Facebook. “This brings Galway another step forward to being socially inclusive and in line with other major Cities in Ireland.”

AMACH!LGBT have worked tirelessly to raise funds for their LGBT Resource Centre, including table quizzes and organising fundraisers.

They have been supported in their efforts by a number of wonderful organisations including the inter Agency Working Group, shOUT!, AMACH!LGBT Parents Support Group, GIG Soc, Family Resource Centre LGBT Network, GOSSIP, Galway Community Pride, Amnesty LGBT Galway, Silver Rainbows and the tireless efforts of the board members of AMACH!LGBT past and present.

Congratulations, Galway!
