Actress Laverne Cox speaks to James Corden about what it was like meeting Caitlyn Jenner for the first time.

Orange is the New Black‘s Laverne Cox appeared on The Late Late Show this past weekend and talked about how it was “pretty awesome” meeting Caitlyn Jenner for the first time, and how she admires Jenner for having the courage to transition in the public eye.

“I met her for the first time last night… she is such a sweet woman.”

Cox met Jenner at a private preview screening of Jenner’s new docu-series, I Am Cait – which Cox says is an eye-opening look at the level of scrutiny that the 65 year-old former Olympian is under from the media.

“There’s no way she could’ve transitioned privately, and I think she’s doing it very eloquently and beautifully publicly,” Cox said, adding, “What I think is so beautiful about this, my visibility and Caitlyn’s visibility, is that diverse representation of the trans people in the media, I think is so important.”
