LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people are invited to join the upcoming Sports Day organised by Sporting Pride, a non-profit organisation that focuses on developing inclusivity in Irish sport. The purpose of the event will be to celebrate strength, community and inclusion.

The LGBTQ+ Sports Day will take place at Trinity College Sports Centre on Saturday, January 11. It will run from 12pm to 3pm, offering a quick ice breaker at the beginning, followed by a mix of pickleball, wall climbing and team bonding games which will ensure a fun time for all while also providing an opportunity for like-minded peers to socialise.

The cherry on top of the cake is that after a short team cool down, everyone is invited to join the organisers in Street 66 for some free pizza!

There’s no need for any previous experience, people of all ability levels are welcome, from beginners to elite athletes. The aim of this event is to create emotional connections among LGBTQ+ people through sports and teamwork activities.

Niamh Grennan from Phoenix Tigers, a Dublin-based social football team for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people, said: “This sports day is about more than just physical activity. It’s about creating a safe and welcoming space where our community can come together, connect, and celebrate our strengths. I see it every week when training with the Phoenix Tigers – being surrounded by your peers can have such a positive impact on a person, and this event offers a great opportunity to make new connections.”

Tickets can be purchased here, and if anyone is not in a position to pay the fee, they can contact Sporting Pride at [email protected]. Also, to get an idea of what you can expect from the event, you can check out this photo album on Sporting Pride’s Facebook page, or read their previous blog posts

Sporting Pride is organising the event in partnership with the Dublin City Sports and Wellbeing Partnership, Phoenix Tigers Football Club, Studio Ten Photography and Conscious Connections.

Undoubtedly, this event should be marked on your 2025 calendar. So don’t hesitate; join the community and contribute to tackling inequality in Irish sport!
