We’re raising a glass or two to legendary actress Lily Tomlin and her wife, writer Jane Wagner, now that it’s news they got married on New Years Eve.

Liz Smith, gossip columnist with The Chicago Tribune broke the news, but Tomlin’s fans haven’t been taken by surprise. In August of last year, after the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was ruled unconstitutional in the USA, the Big Business star told E! News that she and Wagner were “thinking” about getting married,

“You don’t really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice,” Lily Tomlin said. “Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very very happy about it.”

“No rings, no bridal dresses,” she added. “Maybe we’ll be dressed like chickens.”

The 74-year-old comedian and the writer have been together 42 years.
