Michelle Visage has joined the cast of a new BBC comedy series titled Smoggie Queens, which centres around a group of queer friends. The show has been described as an “out and out comedy” set in Middlesbrough, England.
After delighting fans with her ruthless judging on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Michelle Visage is embarking on a new venture by joining the six-episode series that has just wrapped up filming. The show will follow the story of self-styled hun Lucinda (Alexandra Mardell), volatile Dickie (Phil Dunning), drag queen Mam (Mark Benton), awkward Sal (Patsy Lowe) and newcomer Stewart (Elijah Young). Each episode will see them navigate love, life and their pride for the town they live in, which feels neglected in its little corner of the UK.
According to a BBC press release, Smoggie Queens is “an underdog story on two fronts, so expect a few passionate scraps that may send your wig flying!”
Alongside Peaky Blinders‘ Charlotte Riley, Ted Lasso star Bill Fellows and TV presenter Steph McGovern, Michelle Visage is part of the supporting cast of the queer comedy series.

Sharing her excitement about being involved in the project, Visage said: “Filming Smoggie Queens was an absolute joy, and I am so excited for everyone to meet Elaine, an uptight office assistant, who I had so much fun playing. Wait until you meet her!
“The script is brilliant, the costumes are amazing, and I loved being amongst Middlesbrough royalty for the day! I’m an official Smoggie now!” the Drag Race judge added.
Writer and actor Phil Dunning also commented on the series’ announcement, saying: “I feel so stupidly lucky that such an incredibly talented cast agreed to come and be part of Smoggie Queens. They were an absolute dream to work with and I’m in awe and adulation of every single one of them.”
The official release date for the series is yet to be confirmed, but the BBC has shared that Smoggie Queens is coming to BBC Three and iPlayer this autumn.
