Mullingar Pride To Be Launched

This Friday will see the official launch of Mullingar Pride, an organisation to support LGBTs in Westmeath

 

Mullingar Pride will be launched by Sandra Irwin-Gowran, who was a core member of the Yes Equality Campaign in advance of the 2015 marriage referendum. Mullingar town mayor, John Shaw will also speak at the event.

Mullingar Pride is are a voluntary run group formed to support the needs of LGBT people in Mullingar and surrounding areas, also providing education and raising awareness in relation to LGBT issues.

According to Chairperson Nigel Connor: “I think Mullingar is a great place to live but there seemed to be a lack of a formal LGBT group despite the a number of LGBT people in the town, and so together we have worked on fixing that.”

The secretary is local youth worker Jennifer Coyne and the Treasurer is another Mullingar native Richard Muldarry, a sergeant in the Defence forces.

The launch takes place at 8pm on Friday September 30 in the YoYo youth café in the Columb Barracks with an after-party in Taphouse 23 on Dominic Street. All are welcome.
