The youngest child of American singer/songwriter R. Kelly has come out as transgender on his ask.fm this week. In a revealing post, the 13 year-old called his father a “deadbeat”.

The post tells how the teen, who was born with the name Jaya, but prefers to use the name Jay, has the support of his mother – who stars on Hollywood Exes – in his decision to undergo gender reassignment surgery in the near future. He also revealed how he plans to begin using testosterone. He explained to his followers, “I believe I am a boy and want surgery, and the medication to help me be who I was supposed to be”.

According to InTouch Weekly, the teen’s mother told him, “I’d love you if you were bi, gay, lesbian, you name it”. Jay added that his mother was “very proud” of him, along with his sister, who now refers to her sibling as being her “little brother”.

Jay also spoke about his battle with depression, calling it “just one of those things that comes with being transgender”.

R. Kelly, who is Bilboard’s ‘most successful R&B artist of the past 25 years’, has yet to make a comment on his child’s decision and remarks.
