After a two-year-long pause, one of the most anticipated events in the Irish queer calendar is back. The GALAS, Ireland’s LGBTQ+ awards, will take place this October and it is now time for you to make your nominations for who should be awarded for their contribution to our wonderful community.

Organised by GCN and the National LGBT Federation (NXF), the GALAS are Ireland’s only LGBTQ+ awards programme and have been running since 2009 – with a pause of two years due to the COVID pandemic. The awards were established to acknowledge and honour the outstanding contribution that individuals, companies and organisations make to support the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland.

Commenting on the return of this event, Chair of the NXF Anna Nolan said: “The GALAS are back for the first time in three years, and we are excited to host an inspiring, uplifting and positive event for the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland. In the context of increasing threats against our community both at home and abroad, it is important to shine a light on and celebrate the positive impact of those who advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.”

Anna Nolan encouraged people all over Ireland “to help us celebrate the community and nominate the individuals, organisations and companies who have had a positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community over the past two years.”

This year’s ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 7, in the Round Room in the Mansion House in Dublin. And now it’s time for you to help us find the best candidates for the GALAS Awards by making your nominations for who you think most deserves to have their work recognised and celebrated by our queer family.

For this year’s awards, you can nominate individuals, companies and organisations for the following categories:

  • Community Organisation of the Year – volunteer staff
  • Volunteer of the Year

  • LGBTQ+ Young Trailblazer

Support GCN

GCN has been a vital, free-of-charge information service for Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community since 1988.

During this global COVID pandemic, we like many other organisations have been impacted greatly in the way we can do business and produce. This means a temporary pause to our print publication and live events and so now more than ever we need your help to continue providing this community resource digitally.

GCN is a registered charity with a not-for-profit business model and we need your support. If you value having an independent LGBTQ+ media in Ireland, you can help from as little as €1.99 per month. Support Ireland’s free, independent LGBTQ+ media.
