Kim Woodburn, the beloved and larger-than-life television star, has died at the age of 83 following a short illness. Known to millions as the no-nonsense co-host of How Clean Is Your House? Woodburn’s unique style, sharp tongue, and unmistakable glamour made her a household name and a cherished figure within the LGBTQ+ community.
Born Patricia Mary MacKenzie, Kim rose to fame in the early 2000s alongside Aggie MacKenzie, helping Brits scrub their homes spotless while serving unforgettable looks from feather-trimmed gloves to her signature slicked-back bun. Her television career flourished, with appearances on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and the now-infamous 2017 series of Celebrity Big Brother, where she clashed with housemates like Coleen Nolan and Nicola McLean. Her fiery personality and refusal to back down earned her both controversy and cult status.
Often described as having an almost drag-like persona, Woodburn’s bold outfits and unfiltered wit made her a queer icon. Despite a media storm in later years, notably following comments on GB News regarding unisex changing rooms, she firmly reaffirmed her commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. “I have always supported the LGBTQ+ community,” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post. “I will always be an ally to the community and would never say a bad word about any of you.”
In addition to her cleaning crusades, Kim hosted Kim’s Rude Awakenings between 2007 and 2009, helping chaotic households reclaim their spaces. She also graced dozens of other British television staples, from Celebrity Juice to Countdown and The Chase, always leaving a lasting impression.
A statement from Kim Woodburn’s representative on Tuesday, June 17, read: “It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness. Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person. Her husband Peter is heartbroken at the loss of his soulmate.”
Tributes have poured in from fans and fellow celebrities. Drag star Victoria Scone stated in an Instagram post, “I can’t tell you how much I adore this woman. What a bloody legend.” Meanwhile, Irish pop duo Jedward posted, “You will forever be our Celebrity Big Brother Friend! We grew up watching you and to share those memories together you will be truly missed for the tv gold you created for all generations.”
