The long-awaited Red, White, & Royal Blue trailer is here, and fans are already gushing over this adorable love story.

The R-rated gay romantic comedy is based on the best-selling novel by Casey McQuiston. The story follows the romance between the charismatic US President’s son Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez) and good-looking British Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine).

The official trailer depicts the two men as bitter rivals who avoid each other at all costs until they are photographed toppling into a cake at a royal event. Their public altercation becomes a front-page news story called “The Buttercream Summit,” potentially jeopardising Alex’s mother’s re-election campaign.

For damage control, public relations specialists from the US and the UK force the two to fake a friendship. The two grimace through interviews and photo ops with a publicist threatening, “I will Brexit your head from your body” if they don’t comply.

When their unlikely friendship grows into a secret steamy love affair, everything changes.

Director Matthew López shared that he was determined to make this film after he read the novel, sharing: “I never imagined I’d read a book with a queer Latin character at the centre — a character who is smart and passionate and flawed and hopeful. I think having this book in my life when I was younger might have made it a little easier.”

This modern-day fairytale shows what it looks like to love courageously and abandon social conventions while living in the public spotlight. With lines like: “It’s like there’s a rope attached to my chest, and it keeps pulling me towards you,” the undeniable chemistry between the two protagonists is captivating fans.

The cast also features Uma Thurman as US President Claremont and Stephen Fry as the king of England. The promo revealed other notable actors, including Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson,Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth and Juan Castano.

The film will debut on Prime Video on August 11 and it is the perfect summer film for fans of queer romances, secret love affairs, and royal scandals. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) shared that the film has an R rating for the: “language used, some sexual content and partial nudity”.

If the trailer is any indication, Red White and Royal Blue will be full of romance, laughter, and fun.
